International joint research exchange program with UPM, USM and USIM under the JST Sakura Science Program

Kyushu Institute of Technology has been selected for the Japan Science and Technology Agency's open call project, the ‘Sakura Science Program’ (Project Lead: Associate Professor Shinya Ikeno, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering). From November 20 to December 10, 2025, over a three-week period, Kyutech conducted an international collaborative research exchange under the theme “Establishing a Next-Generation Biosensing Platform Contributing to Water Environment Conservation.” Kyutech invited a total of 8 researchers and students from three universities in Malaysia.

This time, one faculty member, one young researcher, and one graduate student from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); one young researcher and one graduate student from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM); and one faculty member and two graduate students from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) participated, deepening international academic exchange through joint research.

The program featured diverse activities, including joint research, research discussions through cross-cultural exchange experiences, research facility tours, research presentations, and a visit to laboratories at Wakamatsu Campus of Kyutech. Among these, the tours of the RIKEN Kobe Campus in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, and the large-scale synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8 located within the Harima Science Garden City provided participants with a valuable opportunity to experience cutting-edge research facilities. Through this series of activities, student interactions deepened. Directly experiencing each other's research environments and cultural differences broadened their academic horizons, making this a highly meaningful invitation. We will continue to further strengthen university collaboration and contribute to the development of international joint research.
